This book of readings and reflections on the impact of Jesus' death in the lives of these biblical women is touching me in a special way. Some of the women are well known in relation to the Holy Week events, like Mary, but many others are women who we have given little thought about previously. What about the women who hosted the Seder that became "The Last Supper", or the wife of Simon of Cyrene as she sees her husband conscripted by the Roman soldiers to help Jesus carry his cross? There are stories of 24 women included and they all have something to add to our fuller understanding of what the events of Jesus' passion means for all humanity. I am using this as a personal daily Lenten mediation and aid to journaling, using the questions for reflection at the end of each woman's story. It is perfect for use on my own, but I can see how it would work just as well as a group study during Lent. There is even a section describing how to use the book as a guided meditation. It is so well and thoughtfully written. The tender care the authors have taken with the stories of these often ordinary, but also extraordinary women is evident on every page. I wholeheartedly recommend this for any individual or group looking for a unique and unforgettable Lenten study.Product details
